Days 5+6

So the last two days have been tiring, to say the least. I think the amount of walking for our various activities, combined with the fact that we've been getting approximately 5 hours of sleep a night has caught up to us.

Yesterday we went to the Louvre for the morning, touring through the Italian paintings wing, and then took the metro to Sacre-Coer, where we shopped for a while in the boutique district and then took the Funicular up by the church.

The church was absolutely incredible! In some ways, I liked it's interior decor (not actual architecture, but paintings and such) more than Notre-Dame. Unfortunately photography is strictly forbidden and so we only were able to get pictures of the facade for you all. But is was very lovely, and the pictures we bought in the gift shop do NOT do it justice.

We went up the Eiffel in the elevator last night, getting to see the light show while we were there and taking pictures until the tower closed at 1 am. The mall in front of Eiffel is so fun at night! Everyone is there with their friends on a blanket, laughing and talking over a bottle of wine; the couples slow-dancing and kissing during the light show. Paris' charm only increases at night.

This morning we went back to the Louvre, where we finished up the 3 floors of art. You cannot truly appreciate how enormous the Louvre is until you actually go there. It's collection is vast, and each collection is extensive. We easily clocked in almost 10 hours total in the Louvre the past two days. It was such an experience to get to see, in person, all of these paintings I have learned and gazed at for years. Rembrandt, Fragonard, Boucher, Durer, David, Hals, Da Vinci, Arcimboldo, Rubens, Corot, Bruegel, Uccello, Chardin...it was absolutely stunning.

So now I am sitting on our bed, looking back on my incredible week in Paris (thanks to you all!), wishing to be back home and yet to stay in Paris forever, simultaneously. It's a rather strange feeling.

So, we fly out at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon, and get in at 3:30 pm. Trevor and Sarah were so kind as to offer to drive me back home and I shall make one last summary update before this blog will have completed its purpose and will cease to delight all who peruse its musings.

Miss and love you all!

  1. Wow! Sounds like you're having a fabulous time. It must be due to your wonderful and, oh-so-accommodating travel companion :)

Is there enough Diet Coke in Paris to keep you out of withdrawal? Good thing you have a store close by that is open until 2am.

I hope that I have a good of a time when I am in Paris! Oh wait, I am :) I have enjoyed the time with you. "[Beulah Bragdon] is the bravest, kindest, warmest, most wonderful human being I have ever known in my life."

Please post more pictures of the sites you are seeing! That is why you are there, isn't it? Besides it takes so much longer if all the tourists have to wait for the rest of the tourists to get their picture by the _________.

Thank you all. & thank you, Beulah, for keeping us all updated.

    Love,
    Mel
